Does Your Company Relocate Employees?

Does Your Company Relocate Employees? Do You Know What a Family’s Number One Priority is When You Move Them? (Hint - It’s NOT the HOUSE!)

When we work with families who are relocating, without fail, they tell us that the SCHOOLS for their children are their NUMBER ONE PRIORITY! Why then, do so many relocation professionals start with the Real Estate Agent? Yes, they are important in helping the family find a new place to live - granted, that’s a BIG decision. But if the schools are not considered first, all too often, that can put the opportunity to find the RIGHT school in jeopardy!

In most places in the US, and particularly in Texas, access to a public school is based quite literally on “where the child puts their head down to sleep at night.” That can be a temporary corporate apartment, a long-stay hotel, a rental house, or a newly purchased home. The address where the family lives dictates access to a public elementary school, middle school (junior high or intermediate school), and high school. And sometimes those schools are exactly the right choice. Without a thorough school search, there are too many times when those schools are not the RIGHT fit for a particular child or family. We know there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to choosing schools. Families need assistance in searching for both public and private school options for their children - and doing so prior to, or in tandem with the housing search, can avoid a lot of headache and possible heartache

At Houston School Options, when we work with families who are planning a move, but not yet anchored into a particular home or neighborhood, we can help parents do an initial wide search in all the areas that might work for their needs - with proximity to work, affordability, and many other factors that go into a family’s own priority system. As we work with them, we assist in narrowing their search to schools (and thus areas) that fit their own needs, and the particular needs of each child in the family. We love to work as a team with realtors and other relocation professionals to make the family’s relocation as seamless and stress-free as possible!
